In the old Rother Street market place Stratford Civic Hall is the home for Orchestra of the Swan. An ideal venue for chamber orchestras Civic Hall has an intimacy often lacking in larger concert halls, and this closeness to audiences has been key to Orchestra of the Swan’s own very special relationship with its listeners.
An historic venue in the heart of the town is Stratford’s Town Hall, a magnificent setting for chamber music. You will see the words 'God Save The King' painted on the facade. The King in question was George III and the Town Hall was built in his reign to replace an old market hall which was filled with guns and ammunition in the English Civil War in the 1640s and then (accidentally?) blown up.
A magnificent Grade 1 listed mansion house designed by Robert Adam in the 1760s, Compton Verney is set in more than 120 acres of classical parkland landscaped by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. The mansion is a gallery of international standard where visitors enjoy art in a welcoming, accessible environment, whether the six permanent collections or the temporary exhibitions programme which offer historic and contemporary shows appealing to a wide audience.
